Domain Generation Algorithm

attackshard

A Domain Generation Algorithm lets malware compute large numbers of pseudo-random domain names, one of which the attacker registers to serve as a command-and-control point. Because the domains constantly change, simple blocklists cannot keep up. Defenders counter DGAs with machine-learning detection of algorithmically generated names and by sinkholing predicted domains.
