UEFI

UEFI is the modern firmware standard that replaced the legacy BIOS for starting up computers. It supports Secure Boot, which checks digital signatures on boot software so malware cannot silently hijack the startup process. Firmware-level compromise is hard to detect and survives OS reinstalls, which makes UEFI security critical.
