SPIFFE is an open standard for giving workloads, not humans, cryptographic identities in dynamic infrastructure like Kubernetes. Each workload receives a verifiable SPIFFE ID delivered as a short-lived certificate or token, replacing hardcoded secrets. Services then mutually authenticate each other, which is a building block of zero trust between machines.
