PUP

Potentially Unwanted Program

attacksmedium

A Potentially Unwanted Program is software that a user may technically consent to install but that behaves against their interests, such as adware, browser hijackers, or bundled toolbars. PUPs slow systems, harvest data, and can open the door to more serious infections. Security tools flag them separately from outright malware because they occupy a legal and ethical gray zone.
