EAP

Extensible Authentication Protocol

protocolsmedium

EAP is an authentication framework that supports many different methods, such as certificates, passwords, and SIM cards, within a single negotiation. It is the mechanism behind enterprise Wi-Fi and wired 802.1X authentication. Rather than being one protocol, it is a container that carries methods like EAP-TLS and PEAP.
