DNP3

Distributed Network Protocol 3

networkhard

DNP3 is a communications protocol widely used in electric and water utilities to connect SCADA master stations with remote substations and outstations. The original protocol has no authentication or encryption, so anyone with network access can read measurements or send control commands. Secure Authentication extensions and network segmentation are the main defenses, and DNP3 traffic is a key focus of ICS network monitoring.
